Tokyo First impressions

After an 8.5 hour flight from Honolulu, we arrived in Tokyo! We stayed in the Shinjuku area at the Granbell Hotel. Our first impression of the city was that it is MASSIVE!
Giant signs and TV screens everywhere...
We even ran into Godzilla in a part of town called Kubikicho
We walked to the Governement building which is one of the tallest buildings around and has a free observation deck.
You could see for MILES! The buildings seemed to go on forever...

We think we made the right choice staying at the Granbell. It was in a section of town that was full of "love hotels"(more on that later), but it was a nice place and walking distance to a few train and subway stations.
Our first night, we went on a free walking tour of Shinjuku and learned a fair amount about some hidden culture in Tokyo. Some of these things warrant their own posts so we'll get to that later.
Overall we were pretty overwhelmed by the city. 13.5 MILLION people live in Tokyo and they are walking around the city at all times of the day and night. It always seemed crowded.
Despite that, it was amazingly clean and organized.
